"There's no progress without pain."

Distance by Kei Miller

Distance is always reduced at night
The drive from Kingston to Montego Bay is not so far
Nor the distance between ourselves and the stars
And at night there is almost nothing between
The things we say, and the things we mean.

However painful and heartbreaking it is, the sun will rise again.

Bittersweet memories

When you photograph, you become a chronicler and this is why I love photography. It is a sentimental process which starts when you take a camera into your hands but which does not have an end. You can take a photo and forget about it, or you can edit and share it; only one thing remains constant - you can always go back to this photograph. When you do, the sentiment, the atmosphere will still be there. There isn't an expiration date, there is never a sense of closure when you are dealing with photographs. They are snapshots of your life, the memories that you chose to immortalise in order to be able to re-live these moments.

I want to remember, I need to remember. Because this is how it is really going down, this is how we say goodbye whether I am ready or not. The only thing which might help me to get through this is the endless photographs that I have taken over the years. Without doubt they will bring me sadness when I flick through them one cold winter evening next year but the sadness will be bittersweet as it always is.
